Venues

The concerts of Nordic Music Days 2010 will be held in one place every day, each venue framing a special festival setting and creating an interesting meeting area:

Den Grå Hal – the famous venue in the middle of Copenhagen´s own free state Christiania.
Københavns Musikteater - the old theatre situated in the lively inner-city street Kronprinsensgade.
Borups Højskole – a cosy venue overlooking the canals of Copenhagen and Christiansborg, Denmark´s parliament.

Concerts will also be held in Råhuset, DR Koncerthuset and in the streets of Copenhagen - check the festival programme for further information!

Borups Højskole (Borup Folk Highshool) is situated in a beautiful old mansion in the heart of Copenhagen, and is the only school of its kind in Denmark. Borups Højskole is visited by students from all over Scandinavia and has a special focus on tendencies in contemporary culture and art. Among its facilities is a smaller concert hall (200 seat) with a great view over the channels of Copenhagen. During many years Borups højskole’s concert hall has become a well known venue in Copenhagen famous for its many interesting concerts and cosy atmosphere.

Ever since Christiania’s birth in the early 70s Den Grå Hal (The Grey Hall) has been a gathering place for the various cultural and social events of the Freetown, ranging from concerts and theatre to the annual Christmas marked and different kinds of arrangements for charity. Den Grå Hal, which was build in 1891, was originally intended to serve as a military riding house. Today its known as Christiania’s largest concert venue and has during the last 40 decades hosted artists like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Prodigy, Bob Dylan, Metallica and many others.

Københavns Musikteater (The Copenhagen Music Theatre) is situated in one of the old historical houses in Kronprinsessegade in the centre of Copenhagen. The house was originally build for the Masonic lodge in 1807 and has over time housed several different institutions. Since 1995 it has been the frame around musical activities and today extends its remit to cover all forms of audio art, installations, electronica, as well as contemporary music theatre and performance. Københavns Musikteater also produces works itself, and commissions new works from Danish composers and artists as well as hosting small scale international guest performances.

Raahuset (The Raw House) is an intimate underground venue, which offers a unique frame for the musical and artistic subcultures in Copenhagen. The vision behind Raahuset is to create a playground for any upcoming artist, musician and performer who whish to experiment and express themselves.

With its raw interior and variety of small scenes the different artistic genres get an extraordinary possibility to interact with their surroundings and explore the boundaries of their performances.

Over time the venue has presented a wide range of different musical genres such as world, rock, folk, country, blues, pop, electronica, songwriter-slam and occasional poetry slam in combination with music.

DR Koncerthuset (DR Concert Hall) is a national and international concert venue for Denmark as well as a new architectural landmark for the capital. Jean Nouvel’s unique building puts Copenhagen on a level with other cities around the world, which provide the best modern acoustics and visual settings for concertgoers.

Events at Koncerthuset ranges widely in terms of size and genre: small-scale jazz concerts in the foyer, chamber music, rock and pop concerts in the three smaller concert halls and symphony concerts in the large concert hall is just some of the types of concerts which Koncerthuset is able to house.
