Aviaja Lumholt

Greenland

Aviaja Lumholt is a Danish/Greenlandic multi-talented artist who masters singing, composing and performing to perfection. She graduated from the Tuukkaq Theatre and The Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen and has since then collaborated with artists such as the New Jungle Orchestra, Klüver’s Big Band, Marilyn Mazur and Rasmus Lybert.

When Aviaja was 11 years old she moved to Thule with her family. Her Greenlandic mother used to invite the old men and women from the village to sing and perform the ancient drum dances in their home and Aviaja grew up listening to the music of the Greenlandic people. The tone language and the sounds of this music made a great impression on the young Aviaja, and it has ever since influenced her work as a musician and a performing artist.
