Guðmundur S. Gunnarsson

Island

Guðmundur Steinn Gunnarsson studied composition at Mills College with Alvin Curran and in Iceland with Atli Ingólfsson among many others. His recent music builds clear rhythms without a pulse or meter. In order for that to work he has been developing ways of making animated notation to be read from computer screens. Guðmundur has written music for Ensemble Adapter, Quartet Opabinia, Njútón, Shayna Dunkelmann and Tinna Þorsteinsdóttir. His music has been performed at many festivals such as Thingamajigs Festival, Reno Interdisciplinary Arts Festival and Dark Music Days. Guðmundur is also a founding member of the S.L.Á.T.U.R., an Icelandic society for artistically agressive composers.
