Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen
The music of Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen does not embrace the listener, but questions acquired habits, prejudices and expectations. Early on, he was inspired by American visual art and pop-art as well as the sound of the music by John Cage and Edgar Varèse. Subsequently, Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreens music has been characterised by repetitions and reductions as well as simple, raw or grotesque figures and rythms. Many of his melodies and sounds are simple, without any kind of intentional ornaments, and the music seems to go nowhere – rather, it is an existence in determined patterns.
