Poul Ruders

Poul Ruders is trained as an organist and is mainly self-taught as a composer. He has written works in most genres, and particularly his works for orchestra are widely performed all over the world. Imidiately after Nordic Music Days his opera 'Dancer in the Dark', based on Lars von Triers movie, will have its world premiere at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen. Ruders' early works played, often in a humoristic way, with quotations and allusions to musical tradition. Classical and romantic tradition is still present in his music, but over the years his music has become increasingly dramatic and evocative.
