In the course of three days, twenty four school children from 6th form at Tove Ditlevsen elementary school in Copenhagen will be let loose in the city to record sounds. Each with a set of roughly edited sounds, the pupils will be creating their own soundscape using digital sound and computer graphics. These virtual fantasy landscapes, which the children create during the three days, are added to a homepage that allows people from all over the world to explore and listen to the children’s sound fields. Listen up – these days will be ear-opening!
The pupils will be developing the following skills:
Active listening
; Express sound impressions in words
Connect auditive and visual effects
Compose evocative sound collages
Use computers actively as a creative tool
Record sounds
Manipulate sounds with open source software
Manage a creative process from idea to presentation
Perform brainstorms
Work productively in a creative group situation
Also, the pupils are introduced to basic recording techniques, as well as basic principles of sound and of digital sound manipulation.
The workshop is developed by freelance designer and media artist Carl Emil Carlsen, MA in Interactive Media, Kolding School of Design. The workshop is held during Nordic Music Days 2010 from Wednesday, September 8th - Friday, September 10th at the attic in Københavns Musikteater.
