NMD for the young

Here you can read about projects for and by the young generation of curious music listeners and performers. Nordic Music Days 2010 is actually arranged by composers themselves, so the festival is a great chance for young people to experience first-hand new music and the Nordic Sound’.

Besides the main festival programme we have a School Concert with Danish Radio’s Sinfonietta & Vocal Ensemble and a variety of youth workshops (Close Encounters, Happy Folk, New Nordic Composers and Happy New Ears) where young people are working directly with professional musicians and composers. Students are fillming the festival for NMD Live and school groups are invited to Open Rehearsals for special concerts. Last, but not least, there are specially-designed educational materials available for teachers who would like to introduce their classes to new nordic music.

WORKSHOPS & EVENTS:

Nordic Contemporary Folk Orchestra - "Happy Folk" 11 talented folk musicians from the nordic countries will meet in Copenhagen during Nordic Music Days. Experience their brilliant performances combing folk and new music at the squares of CPH. The orchestra participates in a workshop with nordic composers and musicians.
New nordic composers workshop 17 music school pupils from the Nordic countries meet with five professional composers in Copenhagen. Through experiments and the exploration of musical ideas, the pupils will compose and present their very own concert at Råhuset during the festival.
Lydfelt In the course of three days, twenty four school children from 6th form at Tove Ditlevsen elementary school in Copenhagen will be let loose in the city to record sounds. Each with a set of roughly edited sounds, the pupils will be creating their own soundscape using digital sound and computer graphics.
School Concert in DRs Concert Hall During Nordic Music Days 2010, pupils from schools all over the country will be given the opportunity to attend a free concert in the Danish National Radio’s new concert hall, Koncerthuset.
Close encounters Close encounters – create you own concert! A group of high school students have composed and staged a concert in close collaboration with the composer collective Dygong. During the festival, a surprising concert will emerge out of drive, enthusiasm and inventiveness.
