Contemporary Nordic Music is a success in the Danish Schools

Children want to learn about contemporary music! This year Nordic Music Days has chosen to focus on the future audience of contemporary music by launching a teaching material intended for pupils in the 3rd to 5th grade. The teaching material which has been available on the festival website during the last few months has proved to be popular beyond all expectations.

The festival has received requests for the material from schools all over Denmark and the material is sold out at the moment. But if the great interest continues, the festival might have to print more up until the festival. The material, developed by lecturer Else Marie Okkels, contains works of composers like Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen and Kent Olofsson and is intended as a preparation for a concert in September 2010 in the Danish National Radio Concert Hall, where the compositions are to be performed. The idea is to give the children an insight into the works of these modern composers, and thereby give them the best opportunities to experience contemporary music.
