NEW MUSIC FOR ARPEGGIONE, CELLO AND COMPUTERS
with interactive electroacoustics and video
The soloist Nicolas Deletaille from the Belgian Ensemble ON performs new pieces for arpeggione, cello and computer by the Danish composer René Mogensen. Arpeggione is an old almost forgotten instrument from the period of Schubert. Now the composer René Mogensen reinvigorates it by putting it into a new context with interactive computermusic. The concert will offer a first performance of Walls of Nicosia for arpeggione and computer with a fusion of influences from new Nordic music and traditional music from Cypres. In All Numbers Language for cello and computer it is the world of German and English music which is in focus with real time manipulation of photo material based on works by the Belgian artist Johan Lievens.

CONCERT WITH ARS NOVA COPENHAGEN
The day before the opening of Nordic Music Days 2010, Ars Nova Copenhagen gives a concert in Garnisons Kirke in the centre of Copenhagen. Their Copenhagen season opens with a performance of Carl Nielsen’s ‘Tre Motetter’ from 1929, which, despite their status as classics, are rarely performed as a whole. This concert also introduces this season’s composer in residence, Áskell Másson from Iceland, who has written a new work inspired by Inuit singing. This work will also be part of the project ‘North Atlantic Voices’. Ars Nova has rediscovered a piece by Sven Erik Werner, which will probably sound more familiar today than it did at its only performances so far, back in the 1960’s. Last but not least, Ars Nova will present two of the most central modernist works of European choir literature, ‘Nuits’ by Xenakis and ‘Lux Aeterna’ by Ligeti, which were both performed in a concert at the Lincoln Center in New York in August this year.
